How Long Does a Workplace Noise Survey / Assessment Take?
LESH describes what you can expect from a professional noise monitoring session.

A workplace noise survey typically takes one full working shift (approx. 8 hours) to capture accurate, representative data, although it does not always require 8 hours of continuous measurement. For smaller sites, a survey may only take a few hours, while larger, complex, or multi-shift operations can take a full day or longer.

Key details on timing:
Methodology: If work is repetitive, surveyors may only need to measure for a few minutes until readings settle. However, varied tasks require tracking a full shift.

Survey Duration: While on-site work often fits into one day, some complex, multi-site environments may require several days of monitoring.

Reporting: Following the on-site visit, the final report, analysis, and recommendations are usually delivered within 14 –20 working days.

Factors Affecting Time: The number of employees, types of machinery, and variations in, or complexity of, the work tasks will influence the duration.

It is important to note that you do not need to measure for the entire 8 hours to calculate an 8-hour daily average, as readings for specific machines or tasks can be combined to assess total exposure.
