What do we get as part of the Competent Person service?

This is one of the most important questions to ask before appointing any health and safety consultancy — and it is one we are always happy to answer clearly and honestly.

At LESH, our competent person service is designed to give you everything you need to manage health and safety effectively and stay legally compliant. The specific elements of the service will be tailored to your business, but in general terms, here is what you can expect.

First and foremost, you will have a named consultant — a real person you can contact for advice and support. This is not a call centre or a generic helpline. You will know who your consultant is, and they will know your business. This continuity matters enormously when health and safety questions arise, because the advice you receive will always be relevant to your specific circumstances.

The service typically includes (depending on the options you choose) an initial health and safety review of your business, covering your existing documentation, procedures and physical workplace arrangements. This gives us a clear baseline and allows us to identify and prioritise any areas that need attention.

From there, the service may also cover areas such as: health and safety policy writing and review; risk assessment support and development; assistance with SSIP accreditations such as SafeContractor and CHAS; support with ISO 45001 implementation if required; guidance on RIDDOR reporting; support with accident investigations; and advice on any health and safety questions that arise day to day.

Depending on the package, the service may also include scheduled site visits, remote audits, toolbox talk resources, and support with producing method statements and RAMS for specific projects or contracts.

Importantly, we also keep you informed of changes in health and safety legislation that affect your business. The regulatory landscape does change, and it is our job to make sure you are never caught out by a change in the law.

If you have a specific requirement that is not listed above, talk to us. We are flexible, and our goal is always to give you the support your business actually needs — not a rigid package that does not quite fit.
